BNP yesterday alleged that the ruling Awami League is hatching a conspiracy to turn the country into a failed state like Afghanistan, Syria and Libya.

“The Awami League has spun the web of deep-rooted conspiracies. They want to turn the country into a failed state. They want to make it a militant country. They want to turn it into a country like Afghanistan, Syria and Libya. But we cannot allow them to do so,” said BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir while speaking at a discussion at the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh.
Uttaranchal Chhatra Forum, a student organisation of northern districts, organised the meeting to mark the 9th anniversary of BNP senior vice chairman Tarique Rahman’s release from jail.
Mirza Alamgir alleged that the AL is giving shelter to the militants and the militants are being killed in the name of gunfight after they are picked up. He alleged that arrested ‘militants’ are being killed without any trial.
Accusing the AL of carrying out repression on those who believe in different views, he said the party had lead the war of liberation but it is now destroying the democracy. “It is their actual character. They own fascist character when the party comes to power,” he added.
The BNP leader alleged that Tarique Rahman was tortured so much that his left waist was broken.
“He (Tarique) is living in a self exile as he carries the BNP’s flag,” he added.
Describing the disastrous situation the party leaders and activists were facing, he alleged many of them are forced to ply rickshaws, some of them have become hawker and security guards as they were implicated in false cases and cannot stay in their houses.
