Weeklong national-level theatre fest begins at Shilpakala

A weeklong national-level theatre festival titled ‘Mulyabodher Natya Utsab’ has began on Thursday at the Experimental Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy(BSA) in the capital’s Segun Bagicha area. 

Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy has organised the first phase of the festival featuring 20 plays centred on human values by 20 districts academy, which will run till September 7. The second and third phases will take place in October and November, respectively. All 64 district academy will participate with their theatre productions in the event. 
Information minister Hasanul Haque Inu on Thursday inaugurated the festival as chief guest. Presided over by BSA Director General Liaquat Ali Lucky, Jahangirnagar University vice-chancellor Dr Farzana Islam, International Theatre Institute’s honorary president Ramendu Majumder were present as special guests.  
Hasanul Haque Inu said regarding the festival, “This theatre festival will awake the human values against the terrorism and militancy” 
Following the inauguration, district academy Kushtia staged a play titled ‘Natanandan’ while Jamalpur branch took the stage with the play ‘Saptarshi’. Directed by Shamim Sagor,  the play ‘Natanandan’ depicted the sufferings and struggles of theatre artistes. On the other hand, the story of the play ‘Saptarshi’ revolves around an old home. Shahinur Rahman has directed the play. 
On the second day of the festival, Dinajpur district academy staged the play ‘Upalabdhi’, directed by Tarequzzaman Tareque, while Chandpur district academy came up with ‘Priyo Dorshon’ and Dhaka district with the play ‘Mulluk’, directed by Bakar Bokul. 
Today, Gaibandha district academy will come with the play ‘Dhanya Razar Punyo Deshe’ directed by Mohammad Amin, Kulna district with ‘Pora Manusher Michhil’ directed by Hasan Tareque and Cox’s Bazar with ‘Mon Boiree’, directed by Swapan Bhattacharya. 
Besides, Barisal, Narsingdi, Jessore, Bogra, Rajbari, Thakurgaon, Borguna, Bagerhat, Rangpur, Moulvibazar, Bhola and Feni district academy will participate in the festival.
