Railway west zone to get 41 new coaches during Eid

 The West Zone of Bangladesh Railway is going to add 41 new coaches to its fleet before the holy Eid-ul-Azha to ensure comfortable journey of the home-bound passengers, reports BSS.
Of the total, 18 coaches will be added to two new Eid special trains while 23 others to the older ones. As a whole, the 41 coaches will be able to carry 3,143 additional passengers in each trip, said Bazlur Rashid, Assistant Director (Public Relation) of the zone.
The initiative has been taken to ensure hassle-free journey for the home-bound passengers.
“We have finalised all necessary preparations to add the 41 extra coaches,” said Sarwar Alam, Assistant Operating Superintendent of the zone. He said the coaches will be added to the fleet on September 7 and the additional services will continue till September 23.
Engineer Khairul Alam, General Manager of the west Zone, while talking to BSS here on Thursday said, “We are taking all-out preparations to make the home-bound passengers journey safe and hassle-free”.
The zone, headquartered in Rajshahi, will operate two-pair special trains on Dhaka-Parbatipur-Dhaka and Dhaka-Khulna-Dhaka routes. This special train service will start three days ahead of Eid-ul-Azha and continue till five to seven days after the Eid festival.
Besides, additional one or two bogies will be added to the other trains specially the intercity ones seven days ahead of the Eid-day, he informed.
He said selling of advanced tickets is going on in full swing. Moreover, strict measures were taken to make the activities of advanced ticket selling free from all sort of black-marketing and other irregularities.
The GM said that the zone has been operating 110 trains, including 36 inter-city and 26 express trains, on different routes under Paksey and Lalmonirhat divisions also connecting the capital Dhaka.
At present, three intercity trains, Dhumketu, Silk city and Padma, are running on Dhaka-Rajshahi route. Now the Silk city train has been replaced with a modern, comfortable and high-speed one having 13 coaches including two air-conditioned chair coaches and two sleeping cabins.
He said that the law enforcement agencies including RAB were informed to take necessary steps for addressing extortion during the pre and post railway.
