Four people were killed in separate road accidents in three districts yesterday. Our Tangail correspondent says: Two persons were killed and four others injured in two separate accidents yesterday. A man was killed and four others were injured at Ashequepur on Dhaka-Tangail highway in sadar upazila at 2.30 pm. The accident caused heavy congestion on the highway till 5 pm. Arif Hossain, inspector of Tangail traffic police, said the accident occurred when a Dhaka bound pick-up tried to overtake an auto-rickshaw. The driver of the van lost control and rammed into the auto-rickshaw and a covered van, leaving pick-up van driver killed on the spot and four auto-rickshaw passengers injured. Fire service personnel from Tangail rushed to the spot and conducted the rescue operation.
In other incident, Abu Baker Siddik, of Hobipur village in Dhanbari upazila, was killed as a pick-up van carrying him smashed into a stranded truck at Hazrabari in Dhanbari upazila on Dhaka-Jamalpur highway in the morning, said Pridip Kumer Paul, SI of Dhanbari police. In Pabna: A motorcycle rider was killed and two co-riders were injured in Aatmail area on the Pabna-Iswardi highway yesterday afternoon, reports BSS.
The deceased was identified as Abdul Salam, 26, hailing from Juth Adam village in Pabna Sadar upazila.
In-Charge of Pakshi highway police outpost Rabiul Islam said the accident occurred when Salam’s motorcycle collided with a CNG-run auto-rickshaw in the area at about 12 noon, leaving Salam dead on the spot and injuring his two co-riders. Locals admitted the wounded to Pabna General Hospital.
In Satkhira: A motorcyclist was killed as a bus rammed into his vehicle at Bharashimla intersection on the Satkhira-Kaliganj road in Kaliganj upazila yesterday morning.
The deceased has been identified as Moksed Gazi, 45, a resident of Kalbari village in Shyamnagar upazila.
Officer-in-Charge of Kaliganj police Subhash Singh said a bus knocked down the motorcycle in the area at about 9:00 am, leaving Moksed dead on the spot.
Informed, police recovered the body and sent it to Satkhira Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.
