There was consistent light to heavy shower throughout the day but it couldn’t dent the mood of the former cricketers who gathered in the world’s longest sea beach Cox’s Bazar for the Masters Cricket Carnival.
Amid the uncertainty and rain, their passion to play the cricket finally won and five games were held that was enough to decide the semi-final line up. The two semi-final games will be held today to curtain the Cox’s Bazar part of the Carnival as the final will be held at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, the ‘Home of Cricket.’
All throughout the fun and dance with the tempo of songs that created a jubilant environment at the Sheikh Kamal International Cricket Stadium, the players got competitive when the match rolled on to the ground.
Finally four teams- Lanka-Bangla All Stars, Confidence Group Dhaka Metro, Gemcon Khulna Masters, JB Dhaka Division Masters moved into the semi-final while Akram Khan’s Ispahani Chittagong and Khaled Masud Pilot’s Renaissance Rajshahi Masters were eliminated.
Confidence Group Dhaka Metro, led by Khaled Mahmud Sujon will take on Gemcon Group Khulna Masters led by Habibul Bashar Sumon while Selim Shahed’s Lanka-Bangla All Stars will lock horns with Bangladesh first Test captain Naimur Rahman Durjoy’s JB Dhaka Division Masters in the semi-final.
Two grounds of the stadium were used to finish the matches—that all were curtailed due to the rain. Renaissance of the Rajshahi Masters was the first team to be ousted from the Carnival after they lost to All Stars by 13 runs, which was their consecutive second defeat. On the opening day of the Carnival they tasted a thumping eight-wicket defeat to Dhaka Metro.
All Stars piled up 72 for four in 10 overs with Javed Omar Belim Gullu making 25 while Ehsanul Haque Seezan scoring 23. Hasibul Hossain Shanto was unbeaten on 13. Rajshahi were held back to 59 for seven in 10 overs. Mukul and Nahid claimed three wickets apiece.
All Stars then sealed an emphatic 36-run win over Dhaka Metro to move into the last four. Thanks to Moniruzzaman’s 35 ball-64, All Stars amassed 111 for three in 10 overs after which Metro were restricted to 75 for two. Moniruzzman was the only batsman so far in the carnival to hit a half-century.
Khulna got a 22-run win over Chittagong in another match. After making 48 for 0 in five overs, they stopped Chittagong to 26 for three. Habibul Bashar Sumon-led Khulna (68-6 in 8 overs) then lost by eight-wicket to Dhaka Division (69-2 in 8 overs).
Dhaka Division then beat Chittagong by 21 runs. Dhaka made 92 for seven in 12 overs after which Chittagong scored 71 for five.
