People of Narail and its adjoining districts yesterday watched the traditional boat race in the Chitra River under the district municipality in observance of 93rd birth anniversary of renowned painter SM Sultan. Sultan Foundation, in association with District Sports Association and Rowing Federation, organised the boat race. Pran Up, a sister concern of PRAN Foods, sponsored the boat race, one of the most favourite forms of entertainment of the village people. Ashikur Rahman Miku, general secretary of SM Sultan Foundation, said 15 boats of men and women participated in the race that began at 2-30 pm. State Minister for Youth and Sports Biren Sikder inaugurated the competition. Like previous year, Sultan Foundation arranged the race in to two parts - in man’s group, 10 boats participated, and in woman’s group five boats participated. Large number of people irrespective of cast, creed, age and gender enjoyed the traditional boat race standing both sides of the river.
