Former fast bowlers of Bangladesh tipped Courtney Walsh as inspiring person, stating that the giant fast bowler could take country’s fast bowling unit a greater height.
With the inclusion of Mustafizur Rahman and Taskin Ahmed, Bangladesh’s fast bowling unit is considered as one of the best in the world, specially in the limited over game. The former fast bowlers thought Walsh could make a great fast bowling unit for longer version cricket, which at the moment is badly needed.
Walsh is the first bowler to break the 500-wicket barrier and held the record for quite some times. His vast experience and reputation to sort out the bowlers problem in a short period is the thing that could give the Bangladesh fast bowling unit a huge boost, they believed.
“Amongst the coaches who worked in Bangladesh so far, he is comfortably the best. He has the skill and experience though it’s the first time he took the charge of a major international team. But as a great fast bowler he knows what a fast bowler needs to do to thrive in the international circuit,” said Talha Jubair, a fast bowler whose career was jeopardized by the injury.
Talha is now playing the Masters Cricket Carnival, a tournament organised by the former cricketers. At the age of just 33, he is now in the batch of former as he couldn’t continue the cricket due to the recurring injury problem.
Talha’s name was uttered parallel with Mashrafe Bin Mortaza in the early 2000 when both of them got the certificate of another former West Indian great Andy Roberts as the future prospect of Bangladesh. While Mashrafe braved injury to continue cricket still, Talha’s career came to a premature end.
From his experience, Talha knows how important it is for a fast bowler to be injury-free to continue cricket in the highest level. Walsh however is the best example of how a fast bowler could be injury-free throughout his career. Talha said it is imperative for fast bowlers to learn the tricks from Walsh to continue cricket as fit and healthy.
“Walsh played the cricket almost uninterruptedly. He remains fit and healthy throughout his career. He managed him quite well and so it is important for our bowlers to learn the tricks for him. Fast bowler needed care and if someone like Walsh is in the dressing room, he can be helpful to make them understand the value of fitness,” Talha opined.
Another former fast bowler Tarek Aziz however believed Walsh was the best option amongst the bowlers who were short-listed. He said Walsh’s experience should be utilized properly to make the Bangladesh’s fast bowling unit world’s best.
“Bangladesh now got some potent fast bowlers who can rule the world. Walsh’s guidance in that perspective could be valuable to keep them motivated,” Aziz said.
“If the young bowlers get his company, they would be thrilled. They will want to be bowler like him. So I think BCB should engage him with the aged level cricket alongside the national team.”
