Digital attendance system launched at edn ministry
The Education Ministry has launched digital attendance system for its officials and employees from August 30.
Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid inaugurated the attendance system by punching his own smart card at a function in the conference room of the ministry, an official release said.
Introduction of the digital attendance system will ensure monitoring the arrival and departure time of the officials and employees. Besides, it will also help to preserve the attendance related information of the officials and employees for a long time. The education minister also inaugurated the e-filing system of the ministry.

1 killed, 20 hurt in road crash
A bus driver was killed and 20 others were injured in a road accident on the Sylhet-Sunamganj road in Jugirgaon area in Sylhet yesterday morning.
The deceased was identified as bus driver Ebrahim Ali, 45. Police said the accident occurred when two buses collided head-on in the area at about 10 am, leaving bus driver Ebrahim dead on the spot and 20 other passengers injured. Of the injured, 14 were sent to Osmani Medical College Hospital.

Human chain against militancy
Leaders of the Hindu-Buddhist-Christian Oikyo Parisahd (HBCOP) at a human chain in Rangpur city have said militancy; terrorism fundamentalist extremism would never have any place in Bangladesh.
Terming Bangladesh as a land of communal harmony and brotherhood for the time immemorial, they said that conspiracy of any depth would never be able to hinder the massive development activities being implemented by the present government.
The district unit of BHCOP organised the human chain at Katchari Bazar in the city on Wednesday afternoon in protest against terrorist and militant attacks, killings of innocent people, secret and targeted killings and fundamentalist extremism.
President of district unit of Bangladesh Puja Udjapon Parisahd (BPUP) and Trustee of the Hindu Religious Welfare Trust for Rangpur Region Advocate Rothish Chandra Bhowmick Babu Sona presided over the programme.

Three Shibir carders jailed
A special tribunal of Chittagong in a verdict here on Wednesday awarded three top Shibir carders to 21 years rigorous imprisonment each for keeping deadly arms and ammunitions.
The special tribunal-7, Joint District Judge Bilkis Akter, delivered the judgment convicting Mohammad Sarwar alias Babla, Nurunnobi alias Maxon and Manik alias Gittu Manik, court sources said. Among the convicts Manik remains fugitive.
According to prosecution police arrested them with five fire arms including an AK-47 rifle, 30 bullets from Hamidpur area under Baizeed thana in the city on July 6 in 2011. Mohiuddin Selim, Officer-in-Charge of Baizeed thana filed an arms case with Baizeed thana against them.
Biyazid thana police submitted charge-sheet against them on August 8 in 2011, while the court framed charges on January 26 in 2012. 
The court examined 11 out of 12 prosecution witnesses in the trial process and held the trio responsible for the crime, sources said.

US Embassy to remain closed on Sept 4 
The United States Embassy in Dhaka will remain closed on September 4 on the occasion of U.S. Labor Day, an American national holiday. 
These closures include the Consular Section and the American Center's Archer K. Blood Library and Education USA Student Advising Center, a US embassy press release said in the capital yesterday.  However, emergency services for American citizens will be available  through the duty officer (phone 55662000).
