The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT)-1 yesterday exonerated Jamaat's student wing Islami Chhatra Shibir President Abdul Jabbar and general secretary Md Atikur Rahman from the charge of contempt of court with strong warning, reports BSS.
The tribunal asked them to be careful, cautious and respectful in making any statement or comment with regard to the judicial proceedings or the Judiciary or the Judges or the Courts of Bangladesh in future.
Earlier on May 4, the ICT-1 drew contempt of court proceedings against the duo and asked them to submit their reply by three-week from the day of the order.
The first tribunal had passed the order as it exonerated advocate Tajul Islam, counsel for Jamaat leaders facing trial before the tribunal, Jamaat acting ameer Maqbul Ahmed,
its nayeb-e-ameer Mujibur Rahman, Jamaat acting secretary general Dr Shafiqur Rahman from the same allegation.
Earlier on January 12, the ICT-1 had issued a contempt notice upon these six.
The tribunal issued the notice, allowing a petition submitted by the prosecution on January 1, which said that after the pronouncement of verdict in the trial of Jamaat leader ATM Azharul Islam, defence counsel Tajul Islam held a press briefing and made adverse comments against the verdict.
Jamaat too called a two-day shutdown in protest against the death sentence awarded to its leader and Shibir tried to enforce the shutdown with their usual anarchies.
