India has described Bangladesh as an invaluable partner in its fight against terror, as Dhaka and Delhi faces some common challenges regarding terrorism.
Reiterating India’s support for Bangladesh’s battle against terrorism, Delhi said that the security forces of both the countries are enjoying ‘excellent’ cooperation.
“Our prime minister has already gone on record to convey that Bangladesh is not alone in its fight against terrorism. We fully support Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s policy of zero-tolerance towards terrorism and stand by Bangladesh,” Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Harsh Vardhan Shringla said while delivering an address on ‘Contemporary India, It’s Foreign Policy and Security Strategy: Implications for Bangladesh’ at the Defence Services Command and Staff College yesterday.
“Your government has taken strong and country-wide steps against terrorism and militancy especially since the attacks in July and also mobilised all sections of society against terrorism,” he said.
“Globalisation affects all aspects of our lives and poses common challenges across the world. This includes the globalisation of security threats; the networks of terror-financial or physical which transcend boundaries and call for states to pool their resources and co-operate with each other to overcome these challenges,” he added.
The high commissioner said that in order to do so, states need to have a mutual understanding of what constitutes a threat and the willingness to work together to tackle it.

“India continues to build consensus on the Comprehensive Convention on International Terrorism at the UN. India has also called for strengthened efforts to prevent supply of arms to terrorists, disrupt terrorist movements, curb terror financing; secure our cyber space and minimise use of internet and social media for terrorism and radicalisation,” he said.
“Bangladesh has also faced some serious challenges from terrorism and is an invaluable partner in our fight against terrorism,” he added.
“Indeed, it is in this aspect that India and Bangladesh are today on the same page and this is manifested in the excellent co-operation that our security forces enjoy-whether it is in the form of sharing of information or apprehending criminals,” said Shringla.
