The Appellate Division yesterday asked for the records of a talk show aired by private television channel Samay TV to examine whether the comments made by the discussants at the show are contemptuous.
The apex court ordered the Somoy TV authorities to submit a recorded version of the talk show before it by Sept 4 through the registrar general of the Supreme Court.
Former Appellate Division Judge AHM Shamsuddin Choudhury Manik, International Crimes Tribunal prosecutor Barrister Turin Afroze and journalist Swapan Dasgupta participated in the programme, which was aired from 10pm to 10:38pm on August 30.
A five-member bench of the Appellate Division headed by Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha came up with the order when the Attorney General Mahbubey Alam told the court that some of the comments of the talk show, which discussed the war crimes trial of Mir Quasem Ali, were contemptuous.
