Militancy in Bangladesh

Kerry doesn’t believe that govt has its head in sand

US Secretary of State John Kerry rejected an assessment often imposed by a section of western analysts that the government of Sheikh Hasina has been inactive and complacent in fighting militancy, reports BSS.
Strongly opposing a question that "the government has its head in the sand," Kerry firmly asserted that "I don't believe that the Government of Bangladesh has its head in the sand. I do not believe it." The question, in reference to observations of some experts, was floated by a journalist from Voice of America, when Kerry was addressing a question-answer session at a centre here during his Monday's visit.
In light of his round of conversations including the premier, he said, "We had a very candid conversation. I met the Home Minister, Law Minister and Foreign Minister and talked very openly about this issue".
About the intention of the present government to join the global efforts against that threat, he said that "the prime minister was very clear at the desire to cooperate with us very, very closely. We agreed on additional steps by which our intelligence and law enforcement will work together in order to try to get ahead of this" Mentioning that terrorism and militancy has turned out a global problem, Kerry said that "no country is immune from terrorism. It's easy to terrorize. Government and law enforcing agencies have to be alerted 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, he added.
