KUET to celebrate anniversary today
KHULNA: Students, teachers and staff of Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET) will celebrate its 13th founding anniversary today.
Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid is expected to attend the function as the chief guest. On the occasion, the university authorities have chalked out daylong different programmes to celebrate the day.
The programmes include hoisting of national and university flags, procession, discussion, innovative projects exhibition, technical papers presentation, inauguration ceremony of newly built dormitory, opening laboratories of different departments, charity football match, doa mahfil and cultural events.
The key buildings of the university will decorate with colourful lights on the day.
In 1967, the institution was established as Khulna Engineering College on 101 acres of land but the academic activities started on June 3 in 1974. It was upgraded as Bangladesh Institute of Technology (BIT) in 1986 and was converted to Khulna University of Engineering & Technology in September 1, 2003.
Now, the university has about 4,200 students and 295 teachers in 16 departments under three faculties and two research institutes and seven dormitories.

DU Bangabandhu Chair's capital increases
Dhaka University yesterday received Tk 58.76 lakh donation further to enhance the capital of ‘Bangabandhu Chair’ under History Department of the university.
Begum Zebunnesa and Kazi Mahboobullah Welfare Trust Fund trustee board member and Midland Bank Limited vice-chairman Nilufar Zafarullah, MP, on Tuesday handed over the cheque to Dhaka University (DU) treasurer Professor Kamal Uddin at a function at vice-chancellor's office.
DU Vice-Chancellor Professor AAMS Arefin Siddique thanked the donor for increasing the capital of the chair that was constituted after the name of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman to carry out research on life and works of Bangabandhu. The donation increased the capital of the chair to Taka one crore. Bangabandhu Chair was established at DU History Department in 1999.
Professor Enayetur Rahim, a faculty of a US university and writer Professor Hasan Azizul Haque worked as Bangabandhu Chair at the university earlier.

RUET to launch two more departments
RAJSHAHI:  Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET) is going to launch two more new departments to meet up the gradually increasing demands.
The new departments named ‘Building Engineering and Construction Management’ and ‘Material Science and Technology’ will be introduced from the current 2016-17 academic session, a press release of RUET said here.
Prof Rafiqul Alam Beg, Vice-chancellor of RUET, told the journalists that the new departments will be launched in order to generate competent manpower to face challenges of the 21st century. Each of the departments will have capacity of admitting 30 students.
Meanwhile, admission test for first year graduation courses in 2016-17 academic session will be held on October 26. Online registration for admission will continue from September 7 to 27. Detailed information relating to the entry test will be published in various newspapers and will also be available on www.ruet.ac.bd.

Discussion on Bangabandhu held at BAU
MYMENSINGH: A discussion on father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib was held at Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) on Tuesday to mark the National Mourning Day.
Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) of Hossain Shaheed Sohorawardi hall unit of BAU organised the programme which was chaired by Krishibid Atikur Rahman, BAU acting Vice-Chancellor Prof Josimuddin Khan attended the discussion as the chief guest.
BAU Students Affairs’ Advisor Prof SD Chawdhury, hall provost Prof Suvas Chandra Das and proctor of BAU Prof AKM Zakir Hossain attended the programme as the special guests. Former economic secretary of Bangladesh Chhatra League of BAU unit Md. Rubel Miah was the chief discussant of the programme.
