TCB starts open market sale
The state-run Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) started open market sale of some commodities at fair prices in the capital, divisional cities and district headquarters ahead of the holy Eid-ul-Azha.
The open market sale of sugar, lentil and edible oil through 182 moving trucks will continue till September 8 across the country. The TCB-fixed price of edible oil is Taka 80 per liter, sugar Taka 55 per kilogram and lentil Taka 89.95 per kg. One person can buy two kgs of sugar, five liters of edible oil and two kgs of lentil. The TCB representatives will be selling the commodities at the selected places in Dhaka and elsewhere.
Hospital catches fire
A fire broke at Kurmitola General Hospital in the capital’s Cantonment area on Tuesday night.
Sources at Fire Service and Civil Defense control room said the fire broke out at the 4th floor of the 10-storey building of the hospital around 9:34pm. On information, nine fire-fighting units rushed there and doused the blaze after two and half hours of frantic efforts. No casualty has so far been reported in this connection. It is not still clear what caused the fire.
BAF chief off to China
Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Abu Esrar left Dhaka for China on Tuesday at the invitation of People’s Liberation Army Air Force (PLAAF) Staff Department of China.
During the visit, The Bangladesh Air Force (BAF) Chief will attend an acrobatic show and visit CATIC, said an Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) press release.
He will exchange views with senior military and civil officials of China on bilateral issues during his visit and also call on with Minister of National Defense Chang Wanquan and Commander of PLAAF General Ma Xiaotian.
Four eateries fined Tk 35,000
A mobile court of Rangpur City Corporation in daylong anti- adulteration drives yesterday fined four eateries Taka 35,000 in Mahiganj Satmatha area in Rangpur, official sources said.
Executive Magistrate of the City Corporation SM Golam Kibria conducted the anti- adulteration drives with assistance of Kotwali Thana police and concerned officials.
During the drives, the mobile court fined Niranjan Hotel Taka 7,000 for conducting business without BSTI approval, Shahi Hotel & Restaurant Taka 13,000 for running business without BSTI approval and Taka 2,000 for having no trade license. The mobile court fined 'Bhai Bhai Hotel' Taka 10,000 for selling food stuffs in unhygienic and dirty environment under the Consumer Rights Protection Act, 2009 and Bismillah Departmental Shop Taka 3,000 for running business without trade license.
Digital attendance system at edn Ministry
Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid on Tuesday inaugurated the digital attendance system for the officers and staffs of the ministry at his office in the capital.
The minister inaugurated the digital attendance system by punching his smart card in a function at the seminar room of the ministry, said an education ministry press release. Nahid also inaugurated the e-filing system for the ministry aiming at preserving the documents. The websites of the education ministry and the departments were also included into the National Portal Framework by the minister at the function. Education Secretary Md Sohrab Hossain and officers and employees of the ministry attended the function.
Cheques to 10 journos distributed
KHULNA: Lawmaker Mizanur Rahman(constituency-2) distributed Cheques among the ten journalists and family members of slain journalists here from Bangladesh Journalists Welfare Trust yesterday.
Earlier, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina handed over the cheques to Bangladesh Journalist Welfare Trust for the sick, indigent and injured journalists and family members of poor slain journalists. President of Khulna Union of Journalists (KUJ) S M Zahid Hossain presided over the function at martyred journalist Humayun Kabir Balu auditorium at Khulna Press Club. Secretary of KUJ Shah Alam was present as the moderator.
