BNP Standing Committee Member and former State Minister Salahuddin Ahmed again pleaded not guilty at a court in Shillong yesterday in a case filed for ‘trespassing into the Indian territory’. A case was filed on May 12, last year accusing him of trespassing into the Indian territory. The BNP leader has always maintained that he was dropped by unidentified men in Shillong, the capital of Indian State of Meghalaya. “It’s a formality. After the prosecution witnesses testified, the court asks the defendant whether he or she is guilty or not. Following the formality, the court asked Salahuddin if he is guilty or not. For obvious reasons, he pleaded not guilty,” a BNP source familiar with the court proceedings told The Independent yesterday. “The court also wanted to know if he (Salahuddin) will provide any defence witnesses. In reply, he said that he will provide defence witnesses along with some documents,” the source said. “Then, the court set September 19 as the next date of hearing,” he added.
