5 idols vandalised in temple

A gang of criminal have vandalised five idols of Durga at a Hindu temple in Palpara area under Madanpura Union of Bauphal upazila early yesterday.
According to temple committee president Shankar Pal, Durga’s idols are being constructed in the temple for celebrating Durga Puja. Artists Samir Pal and Gopal pal found the idols broken yesterday morning. They also found a letter which was written in Arabic.
Manik Lal Das, president of Dinabandhu Ganguly Universal Temple, said militant outfit might be behind the incident.
Saidul Islam, OC (investigation) of Bauphal police, said legal steps will be taken in this regard.
College girl raped in Jessore

A college girl was raped by a local criminal in Chowgachha upazila of Jessore on Sunday night.
Victim’s mother said the criminal abducted her daughter from her sisters’s residence and raped her.
The victim was admitted at a hospital for a medical check-up, said Mosiar Rahman, officer-in-charge of Chowgachha Police Station. No case was filed till yesterday evening in connection with the incident.
Three held with phensidyl

Police seized 300 bottles of Indian contraband phensidyl from a three wheeler at Taltola area in Sadar upazila yesterday afternoon. They also arrested three alleged drug peddlers from the spot.
They are identified as Razzazk Gazi, Jakir Hossen and Mohasin Ali.
Ali Ahmed Hashmi, officer-in-charge of Detective Branch of Police, said acting on a tip-off, police intercepted the human hauler in the area and found phensidyl inside the vehicle, said the OC. A case was filed in this connection.
Motorcyclist killed in road crash

A motorcycle rider was killed in a road accident near Akota brick klin in Dhalgram crossing area in Bagherpara upazila of the district on Sunday afternoon.
The deceased was identified as Shukur Ali, 30, son of Abdus Salam and resident
of Teghoria village under Bagherpara upazila.
Police said the accident occurred when a Khulna-bound bus hit his motorcycle in the area, leaving him dead on the spot. In-Charge of Vitaballa Police Camp Suhag Hossain confirmed the incident.
A case was filed in this connection.
Housewife killed by ‘husband’
Joypurhat: A housewife was tortured to death allegedly by her husband at Komorgram Paschimpara village in Sadar upazila early yesterday, reports UNB.
The deceased was identified as Delwara Begum, wife of Rezaul Kabir of the village.
Ashok Kumar Paul, assistant superintendent (circle) of Joypurhat police, said Rezaul used to quarrel with his wife Delwara over trivial matter. Rezaul again locked into altercation with his wife on Sunday night. At one stage, he beat Delwara mercilessly.
Later, he strangulated her with a pillow which left her dead around 1am. On information, police recovered the body yesterday morning.
Police also arrested Rezaul from the spot.
