National Board of Revenue (NBR) is developing software to remove audit harassment through identifying tax payer’s documents and files.
Sources said after introducing the software, the taxpayer’s files or documents will be identified in digital system instead of manual system for audit.
Officials of NBR said the allegation of businessmen and taxpayers for frequent harassment will be removed through the use of this software.
As per rules NBR can audit a file or document of tax payers and business organisation, but the business organisations allege that they are facing frequent audits which is inconvenient for doing business.
Thus the business community has been demanding for a long time to bring transparency in audit system and the audit automation system through introducing the software.
NBR Chairman Nojibur Rahman said International audit is an important tool for revenue collection and NBR has prepared a strategy.
Besides they have prepared different modules to increase revenue of government, he said.
He also added “This software is part of this initiative so that no taxpayer will face any harassment.”
The business people are concerned that often they are been called upon in the local tax office for no significant reason.
At present there are 18 lakhs individual tax payers across the country. Of them on an average 12 people submit their return every year.
NBR audit those returns to examine the information provided by the tax payers and business organisations.
