Another pvt varsity gets govt nod
The government has given permission to set up a new private university in the capital, raising the total number of private universities in the country to 95. Most of the private universities in the country are concentrated in the capital, although there is a decision in principle not to allow any new universities in the capital. The new university named Anwar Khan Modern University will be situated at Sector 11 of Uttara in the capital, education ministry sources said. The founder of the university is Anwar Hossain Khan, who is also the owner of Anwar Khan Modern Medical College and Hospital in Dhanmondi of the capital. Additional Secretary (University) of Education Ministry Md Helal Uddin confirmed that the Anwar Khan Modern University has been given permission to begin its operation. Recently, permission was granted by the government to at least three universities to be set up in the capital or on the outskirts of the capital. The government is giving permission to set up new private universities every year but the infrastructure of most of these universities do not meet the requirements stated in the Private University Act 2010, said University Grants Commission sources. They also said they have a shortage of manpower to oversee the huge number of private universities in the country. As a result, they can hardly pay enough attention to the activities of these private universities.
