BSS

Stock markets extended loss to open week yesterday when majority of issues traded closed in red amid lower participation, reports BSS.
All the indices at Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) ended in negative territory, with DSEX losing 19.71 points to 4534.55, DS30 7.20 points to 1740 and DSES 4.08 points to 1103.26.
The indices could sustained on the green zone as 164 securities incurred loss against 102 gaining and 55 static issues among the day's 321 traded securities.
Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also ended yesterday lower, with its major CASPI index losing 78.49 points to finish at 13920.18. The stock exchange also saw 140 issues losing against 71 marginally advancing securities when 72.26 lakh shares changed hands for Taka 23.65 crore.
"The weakness in DSE came following the continuous correction in market last week", said Lanka Bangla Securities Limited, adding that the negative sentiment might have also garnered by senior bankers' fear of further rise in volume of non-performing loans in the country's banking sector.
Amid this apprehension, investors were mostly on the sideline that resulted in sluggish demand on the market. The daily transaction in volume, however, inched up due to sector focused buying centering power, engineering, pharmaceutical and banking shares.
The major sectors could not maintain the support level as sell pressure drove the large-cap securities down. The sectors included bank, cement, pharmaceuticals; and fuel and power while only food and allied stay at green zone with little gains.
The daily trade volume was 2.33 per cent up at 10.85 crore shares, but the trade value went 6.17 per cent down to Tk 465.52 crore while issues across the board were closing lower.
The day's gaining issues were Salam Crest, Rahim Textile, Continental Insurance, Apex Food and Trust Bank. The major lowers included National Tubes, Ambee Pharma, Meghna Pet, Beatch Hatchary and Usmaina Glass.
MJLBD topped the turnover's list followed by National Tubes, Trust Bank, SPCL and Acme Lab.
