Finance Minister AMA Muhith yesterday asked Bangladesh Bank (BB) to cut down the number of consultants and complete the technical assistance programmes quickly, reports BSS.
"Number of consultants must be cut down drastically . . . there are a lot of technical assistance prog-rammes and today I gave directives to the central bank to complete the programmes quickly," he said.
The minister told the journalists after a discussion organised to observe the martyrdom anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at BB headquarters in the capital.
Muhith lauded the BB for its overall activities, including the initiatives of recovering the stolen money from the central bank's reserve account with the New York Federal Reserve Bank, and said despite some small incidents; the working skill of the central bank is very good.
Bangladesh Bank's National Mourning Day Observation Committee organised the discussion when State Minister for Finance and Planning M A Mannan and BB Governor Fazle Kabir, among others, addressed on the occasion.
