Two criminals arrested
RAJSHAHI: Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested two alleged terrorists with eight cocktails from Meherchandi area under Motiher Police Station in the city early yesterday, RAB sources said, reports BSS.
The arrested persons were identified as Monzur Rahman, 40, and Bachchu Pramanik, 27.
A team of the elite force conducted a raid in the area around 7.10 in the morning and arrested them.
Another RAB team arrested a suspected JMB man identified as Abdul Khaleque, 32, from Baneswar Bazar area under Puthiya Upazila of the district yesterday.
Army chief off to Sudan
Chief of Army Staff General Abu Belal Muhammad Shafiul Huq accompanied by five other army officers yesterday left Dhaka to visit UN peacekeeping mission in Sudan's Darfur to oversee the activities of the Bangladesh peacekeepers in the African country.
Durimng his visit, General Belal will exchange views with the two contingents members of Bangladesh Army working in UN peacekeeping mission at Darfur of Sudan.
The Bangladesh army chief will also meet with the Sugan government and the senior officers of the UN mission headquarters.
3.25kg heroin seized
Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) recovered 3.25 kilograms of heroin from Raninagar area in Godagari upazila on Saturday night.
BGB in a press release said on secrete information that a group of drug peddlers were selling heroin in the area, a team of the border force conducted a drive there at about 8:45pm. Sensing the presence of the BGB members, the smugglers managed to flee the scene leaving behind a bag. Later, the border force recovered 3.25 kilograms of heroin from the bag. A case was filed.
2 held with firearms in Ctg
Chittagong Metropolitan Police in a drive arrested two listed dacoits with a single barrel gun, a shutter gun and ammunitions from Mohora area under Chandgaon thana in Chittagong on Friday night, reports BSS.
The arrested were identified as Sattar alias Shaukat,35, son of Farid Shah hailed from Raozan upazila and Khurshed, 33, son of late Abul Kashem, hailed Boalkhali upazila of the district.
PCR Campaign celebrated
Bangladesh CML (chronic myeloid leukemia) Supporting Group celebrated PCR (polymerase chain reaction’) Campaign with cancer survivors, nurses, physicians and volunteers at National Institute of Cancer Research & Hospital, Mohakhali, Apollo Hospitals Dhaka and Asgar Ali Hospital, Dhaka on Saturday in a bid to raise awareness about PCR, build community, and help people facing cancer around the world, says a press release.
PCR is a diagnostic and monitoring tool used in CML to measure the response to treatment. It is not only used in CML; PCR is also used in other conditions and is generally one of or the most sensitive ways to “detect” something; for example, BCR-ABL can be detected in a person with CML, anthrax on a mailed letter, or evidence of a specific virus in a person after bone marrow transplant.
Two held with yaba tablets
Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) arrested two alleged drug traders with 3,500 pieces of yaba tablets from city's CRB area under Kotwali thana Saturday night.
The arrested were identified as Mohammad Abul Khair, 32, hailed from Comilla district and Saifuddin, 33, of Agrabad commercial area under Doublemooring thana in the city. On a tip-off, a team of the Detective Branch (DB) of police detained the duo in front of Taspia Community center of CRB area and recovered the contraband drugs from their possession, a press release of CMP said. "The arrested persons brought the yaba tablets from Cox's Bazar for selling those in the port city," the sources said. A case was filed with Kotwali thana under Narcotics Control Act.
