The Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) yesterday arrested a deputy manager of Bangladesh Parjatan Corporation from the capital in a graft case.
ACC deputy assistant director Nazim Uddin of its Dhaka zila office arrested deputy manager (PTS Division) Syed Md Nazmul Arefin from the city’s Segunbagicha area, ACC public relations officer Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya told UNB.
On December 4, 2006, the national anti-graft agency filed a case against him with Gulshan Police Station for allegedly plundering nearly Tk five crore from Parjatan Corporation.
According to the case statement, Nazmul Arefin was earlier the executive officer of the corporation’s Department and Privileged Persons Tax Free Shop located in Mohakhali and withdrew duty-free wines and beer and other products against 216 fake passbooks issued to beneficiaries. Later, he sold these products in local market dodging a duty of around Tk five crore to the government.
