CHITTAGONG: Lighter cargo vessels here have started plying from early morning after workers of the sector had called off their five-day work abstention programme, reports BSS.
Nobi Alam, General Secretary of Bangladesh Lighterage Sramik Union told BSS that the operation of the lighter cargo vessels was resumed in full swing in 16 ghats of Chittagong Port after workers returned to work from early yesterday morning.
The workers had agreed to call off their work abstention programme after vessels owners and workers reached an understanding over the issue at a marathon tripartite meeting held at the labour office in Dhaka on Saturday night.
After the meeting that the owners agreed to fix the monthly salary of category ‘Ka’ workers at Tk 9,650 and ‘Kha’ Tk 7,750, he added.
