KHULNA: Khulna Medical College (KMC) authorities have banned student politics and expelled its four students for their alleged involvement in Saturday’s clash between two factions of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) on the campus, reports UNB.
The suspended students are college unit former BCL president Saifullah Mansur, BCL activists Sakibul Islam, Aninda Sundar and Russel. The KMC authority took the decision from an academic council meeting of the university on Sunday morning, said KMC Principal Professor Dr Abdullah-Al-Mahbub.
Talking to reporters, Khulna City unit BCL office secretary Shahin Alam said the party has suspended its all activities in the college after the clash. Officer-in-charge of Sonadanga Police Station Sakumar Bishwas said six separate cases were filed with the police station on Saturday night in this connection, adding that no was arrested yet. At least 50 people were injured in a series of clashes between two factions of BCL at the KMC on Saturday over establishing supremacy on the campus.
The BCL men also vandalised two motorcycles and the windows of different rooms of the college and hospital during the clash. On information, police and Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) members rushed in and brought the situation under control. Of the injured, 20 students were admitted to Khulna Medical College Hospital (KMCH) from where four critically injured ones were shifted to Dhaka as their condition deteriorated. The clash took place during Prime Minister’s personal secretary Dr Namita Halder’s visit to the burn and plastic surgery unit of the KMCH.
