Serajul Islam Chy to receive this year’s award

‘Shaheed Altaf Mahmud Padak 2016’ has been announced for the year 2015 on last Thursday. Eminent writer-columnist Serajul Islam Choudhury will be awarded with the prestigious award this year for his outstanding contribution to the literature. Organised by Shaheed Altaf Mahmud Foundation, the award will be handed over to the recipient on August 30 at the Liberation War Museum in the capital. The event will mark the death anniversary of the pioneer composer Altaf Mahmud.
The award recipient will receive a crest, uttorio and an amount of money, member secretary of Shaheed Altaf Mahmud Foundation Shaon Mahmud informed. Shaon Mahmud, daughter of Altaf Mahmud said, “We are proud to honour Serajul Islam Choudhury with ‘Shaheed Altaf Mahmud Padak’ this year. He is a man, who works for human beings as well as for the country following the path of Altaf Mahmud.”
She also informed that art critic Mofidul Hoque will be present on behalf of the foundation to speak on the occasion. Born on June 23 in 1936, Serajul Islam Choudhury is a literary critic, public intellectual, social and political analyst, activist, historian, educationist, editor, translator, columnist, and professor emeritus at the University of Dhaka.
