Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader yesterday said around 1,000 members of Bangladesh Rover Scout will work as volunteers at 15 traffic jam-prone points to ensure hassle-free travel of the homebound passengers during the Eid-ul-Azha, reports BSS.
"The volunteers will assist the law enforcement agencies in cattle market areas for transport management on the occasion of the Eid-ul-Azha," he told newsmen at the capital's Manik Miah Avenue during a mobile court drive of Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) against unfit and unregistered motor vehicles, motorbikes and CNG- run auto rickshaws.
The minister said the government has taken necessary measures for smooth movement of passengers on roads and highways during the Eid.
Quader said the government has opened the Dhaka-Mymensingh four-lane road and the passengers would be able to move to their destinations hassle free.
He urged the Highway Police for action so motor vehicles can run smoothly avoiding untoward situation during the Eid-ul-Azha rush.
About the fitness of motor vehicles, the minister said most of the cattle- carrying trucks have no fitness certificates and some of these trucks are seen bogged down on the road.
The minister asked passengers on board the CNG run three wheelers whether the drivers are carrying them on metre fare or not.
Among others, officials of BRTA and the ministry were present at the mobile court operation.
