Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is planning to make the most use of the high-profile Australian coach Simon Helmot in the other programmes of the board beside the BCB-High Performance (HP) programme.
The BCB penned a three-year-deal with Helmot for the HP programme before his CPL stint. As per the deal, he was scheduled to arrive in Dhaka just after the completion of his CPL job.
But he did not come here despite being ended the short-term programme. The HP squad traveled to Sylhet to play a three-day game, which will be held at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium on August 28-30.
They will play the second and last 3-dayer at the Khan Shaheb Osman Ali Stadium in Fatullah before the end of their formal activities this year.
Admitting the matter of Simon Helmot, BCB CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury said that they could not synchronize the schedule with him for being delayed of the HP programme.
“We had an agreement with Simon Helmot, under which he was scheduled to inform us just after the end of his CPL stint when he will come here in Bangladesh. In that way, we had talked with him and a (3-year) contract has been made between us,” said Nizamuddin Chowhdury yesterday.
“But we delayed to start the high performance and the national team programmes for a certain situation. Thereafter, there was a matter of synchronization between his availability and our programme schedule,” he told media at the Lounge of the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.
“In fact, we are keeping our contract with him. We will try to use him outside of the HP programme. We’ve heard that he is a well and reputed coach,” he added.
The post of the fast bowling coach remained vacant for the last few months after Heath Streak left the country. The board already finilised a deal with the new fast bowling coach but could not announce his name because of his current contractual obligation.
“We can’t disclose his name due to the contractual obligation. Hopefully we could reveal his name within the next one or two days,” the CEO said, adding “We hope that the new bowling coach will be available within the 1 or 2 September with the team.”
