Japanese team meets DU VC
A 3-member delegation led by Masahiro Isokawa, President of Kansai Action Company, Japan called on Vice-chancellor (VC) of Dhaka University (DU) Professor Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique at latter's office on the campus in the capital yesterday, said a DU release.
Other members of the delegation were Shinya Nishimura, Director and Anup Somadder, Legal Advisor of the same company. During the meeting, they discussed about various issues including development of leather technology and environmental science education at Dhaka University. Expressing willingness to recruit skilled manpower in their companies from Bangladesh, the Japanese delegation assured the VC that Dhaka University students would be given priority in this regard. They also discussed about the possibilities of undertaking joint collaborative research programmes between Dhaka University and Kansai Action Company, the release added.

Education fair held at CUB
Canadian University of Bangladesh (CUB) organized a three-day Education Fair at its own campus at Banani in the capital yesterday, says a press release. 
The fair provides an opportunity to discover the range of career oriented degree programmes on offer at the university and get the chance to meet with academicians and students.  Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed was the chief guest while President of Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce & Industry of Bangladesh (FBCCI) Abdul Matlub Ahmad was special guest at the inaugurating ceremony of the fair. 
During the fair, CUB signed four MOUs with FBCCI, LIC, Bangladesh Economic Association, Cambrian Education Group. Prospective students and their families visited the campus in record numbers to attend presentations, workshops and interactive demonstrations. It was also a chance for them to speak one-on-one with lecturers, discuss study & career choices with helpful CUB staff and current students, and get a taste for what university life is really like.

75pc fund enhanced for university research
RAJSHAHI: Seventy-five per cent funds have been enhanced to the research fields in public universities from this financial year.
Chairman of Bangladesh University Grants Commission (UGC) Prof Abdul Mannan revealed this while addressing a discussion in Rajshahi University (RU) on Friday evening as chief guest. University authorities should remain alert in this regard so that no single allocated money remained unspent, he stressed. Besides, the varsity authorities should oversee the matter of whether the teachers are performing their duties properly or not. Prof Mannan categorically said teachers' role is very much important to make the students educationally and scientifically enriched.
RU Teachers Association (RUTA) organized the discussion titled "Educational Environment and Quality Improvement in University Level" held in Jubery International Guest House. UGC Chief Prof Mannan said the teachers should be more attentive to innovation and research. He called for more pro-active scientific and industrial research for benefiting the general public. RUTA General Secretary Prof Shah Azam Shantunu, former president Prof Ananda Kumar Shaha and Director of Institute of Bangladesh Studies Prof Swarachis Sarker also spoke.

Photography exhibition at Milestone College 
A3-day -long 1st International Inter College Photography Exhibition was held at Milestone College, says a press release.  
The exhibition started on August 22 and ended on August 24, 2016. The Photography Exhibition was organised by Milestone College Photography Club –MCPC.  
The last day of the event, Administrative director of Milestone College Md. Masud Alom, was given crest of honour as adviser of the club. Uttara thana secondary education officer Mrs. Shampa Yesmin, Asst. education officer Arif Khan, Principal of Milestone College Prof Md Shahidul Islam, moderator of the Milestone College Photography Club Mojahidul Islam, Chairman of the Mathematics Department  Mizanur Rahman Khan, Mrs Kazi Bilkis Ara Irin, President of Milestone College Photography Club Rafi Azim were present while conferring the crest. 

Three-day debate competition begins at BRUR
RANGPUR: The third inter-departmental debate competition-2016 began at Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (BRUR) here on Friday.
Vice-chancellor (VC) of the university Professor Dr AKM Nurun Nabi formally inaugurated the three-day event at the auditorium of Academic Building No-1 (Heyat Mamud Bhaban) on the campus as the chief guest.
Debaters in 18 teams of different departments of the university have been taking part in debate competition being organised by Begum Rokeya University Debating Society (BRUDS). Earlier, Professor Nabi, also valiant freedom fighter and noted population scientist, led a colourful rally arranged on the occasion on the campus.
The participating debaters, teachers and students of different departments of the university participated in the rally and attended the ceremony to enjoy the events on the inaugural day. 
Later, Chief Moderator of BRUDA and Associate Professor of the Department of Bengali of BRUR Dr Tuhin Wadud presided over the inaugural function.
Teachers Elias Sabbir of the Department of Social Science and Kuntola Chowdhury of the Department of Women and Gender Studies also addressed the occasion.
