Dhaka north and south city corporations have already leased out 23 makeshift cattle markets in the capital for selling of sacrificial animals ahead of coming Eid-ul-Azha, the second largest religious festival of Muslims, reports BSS.
Out of the 23 markets, 14 will be set up in Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) while 9 in Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC).
According to a source, the city corporations earned Tk 140,169,763 by leasing out 18 cattle markets out of 23. Information on the leasing amount of the remaining five markets under DNCC was not available till yesterday.
Last year, the two city corporation leased out a total of 14 cattle markets in the capital at a total cost of Tk 74,252,786.
The officials concerned of both the city corporations said that a total of 3,61,410 animals are expected to be sacrificed in the capital during Eid-ul-Azha this year. The number of sacrificial animals was 3,41,410 in the last year.
According to the DSCC, it has earned Tk 8,54 69,763 by leasing out 14 makeshift cattle markets. Last year, the DSCC leased out 10 markets and earned Tk 43,885,999. The highest Tk 19,852,125 was earned by leasing out Brothers Union ground adjacent to Gopibagh Balurmath. This cattle market was leased out only at Tk 2,630,000. DNCC has already leased out four out of nine cattle markets and earned Tk 5.47 crore. The highest Tk 2.41 crore was earned by leasing out the ground adjacent to Khilkhet Banarupa residential project against the last years leasing amount of Tk 15,150,000.
