Housewife killed for dowry

A housewife was beaten to death allegedly by her husband for dowry in Sadar upazila on Wednesday night. The deceased was identified as Rani Akter, 20, daughter of Abdus Salam of Krisnapur village. Police said Rani was married with Foyjul Islam 18 months ago. Rani’s father gave Foyjul Tk 2 lakh and a cow as dowry at the time of marriage. Foyjul tortured Rani for dowry after their marriage. On Wednesday night Foyjul told Rani to bring more money from her father. As Rani refused to do so a quarrel was picked up between them and at one stage Foyjul beat her mercilessly, leaving her dead on the spot.
