Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Nurul Islam BSc yesterday said the government is working sincerely to ensure safe migration and cut its cost for the country’s people, reports UNB. “The Bangladesh government has already included the migration development issue in its 7th five-year plan (2016-2020) and now it has been working to achieve its goal,” he said while addressing the 5th ministerial meeting of Colombo Process held in Colombo, Sri Lanka. The minister said the government has taken some important steps regarding sending Bangladeshi workers to Mala-ysia, South Korea and Saudi Arabia, according to a message received here yesterday.
“We also enacted the Overseas Employment and Migration Act 2013 and formed a taskforce to ensure transparency and accountability in sending manpower abroad,” he said. Nurul Islam called upon the member countries of the Colombo Process to work together to ensure safe working environment of all expatriates at international level. Ministers from Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, Nepal, India, Indonesia, Vietnam, Philippines, and Thailand also took part in the ministerial level meeting.
