Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) of Jahangirnagar University unit (JU) yesterday suspended its four activists for their alleged involvement in threatening journalists.
A press release signed by the president and secretary of BCL JU unit Mahmudur Rahman Joni and Razib Ahmed Russel respectively confirmed the matter. JU BCL also served a show-cause notice and asked the members to explain their position in the matter within next seven days, the release added.
The suspended BCL men are-- Sharukh Shahriar Shoumik, 4th year student of Public Administration; Nazmul Banun, 4th year student of Economics; Habibullah Habib, 4th year student of Public Administration and Shaikat Mohammed Abdullah, 3rd year student of Finance and Banking department. All the students are residents of Bangabandu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman hall and supporter of suspended BCL leader Asif Ahmed.
Meanwhile, Jahangirnagar University Journalists’ Association (JUJA) declared to boycott all BCL news by an emergency meeting held at JUJA office at 11pm until any initiatives is taken this connection.
Mentionable, the suspended BCL men threatened and verbally abused JUJA president Belal Hossain Rahat of Alokita Bangladesh, vice president Sanaullah Mahi of Dainik Shangbad and Hasan Al Mahmud of Manabzamin on Wednesday when they were on duty in social science faculty area of the university.
