AGENCIES, Dublin: Ireland Women have announced 13-member One-Day International and Twenty20 International squads for the upcoming limited-overs series against Bangladesh women.
Top-order batsmen Shauna Kavanagh and Meg Kendal have been called up to the ODI squad and they will take the place of Cath Dalton and Una Raymond-Hoey.
All-rounder Robyn Lewis makes a comeback from injury and takes the place of fast bowler Louise McCarthy, who is unavailable for selection due to college commitments.
Ireland coach Aaron Hamilton views that these inclusions allow the selectors to assess the pool of players ahead of the 2017 Women's World Cup Qualifiers.
“With all games leading to the ICC World Cup Qualifiers in February these series are a great opportunity for both selectors to have a look at some players at the next level, and for players to put their stamp on positions in the side,” said Hamilton.
“We have already seen some very good performances in the recent series against South Africa and I expect players to keep putting their hand up throughout this series.
“These types of series are so important for the growth of women’s cricket in this country.
“The double-headers with the men’s T20 games is an exciting step forward for the game.
“I look forward to our players putting their skills on show in front of another home crowd in Bready next month.”
The limited overs series between Ireland and Bangladesh will be played between 5th and 10th September in Bready and will consist of two ODIs and as many T20Is.
