The foundation stone of a 31-storey world-class modern tower of Jatiya Press Club will be laid on October 20, marking the club’s 62nd founding anniversary, reports UNB.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is expected to lay the foundation stone of the building, Quamrul Islam Chowdhury, general secretary of the Jatiya Press Club, told the news agency.
He said the Prime Minister gave her verbal consent at a programme marking the distribution of financial assistance among some distressed journalists at her office on Wednesday.
A total of 196 journalists received Tk 1.40 crore from the Prime Minister under the Journalists Welfare Trust at the programme.
On April 25 last, the JPC authorities invited preliminary conceptual designs from experienced consultancy firms for the construction of its 31-storey modern tower.
