BNP, Jamaat make militant, says Quamrul

Food Minister Advocate Quamrul Islam yesterday said the BNP-Jamaat combine gave birth to militancy and militant kingpin like ‘Bangla Bhai’ in the country, reports BSS.
“The seed of militancy was sown throughout the country during the rule of the BNP-Jamaat alliance government from 2001 to 2006,” he said.
Quamrul Islam said this while speaking as the chief guest at a discussion organised by Begum Ivy Rahman Death Anniversary Observance Committee at the Rehearsal Room of Shilpakala Academy at Segunbagicha in the city marking the 12th anniversary of martyrdom of Begum Ivy Rahman, Awami League Women’s affairs secretary and wife of late President Zillur Rahman.
Dhaka City South Awami League (AL) general secretary Shahe Alam Murad presided over the discussion, also addressed, among others, by Vice-chancellor of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Prof Dr Quamrul Hasan Khan, Vice-chancellor of World University Prof Abdul Mannan Chowdhury, president of Sammilito Sangskritik Jote Golam Kuddus, president of Awami Swechchasebak League Advocate Mollah Md Abu Kowser and Krishak League leaders MA Karim and Sheikh Md Jahangir Alam.
Bringing allegation of direct involvement of BNP senior vice-chairman Tarique Rahman in the August 21 grenade attack of 2004, Quamrul Islam said, “A number of parleys were held at Hawa Bhaban to prepare the plan for killing then.
