Mayor of Dhaka North City Corporation Annisul Huq yesterday said his voters will see 80 per cent of his election pledges implemented within the next three years, reports UNB.
He made the prediction while talking to reporters after the first-ever inter-divisional coordination meeting with 26 government organisations at the new DNCC office at Gulshan Centre Point in the city.
Heads or their representatives of the 26 organisations, including Dhaka Wasa, Rajuk, DMP, Rab, BRTA, BRTC, Railway, district administration and divisional commissioner of Dhaka, attended the meeting held with the mayor in the chair.
Claiming that the city dwellers were getting the benefits of development one by one, the DNCC mayor said a committee will be formed within a month to reduce traffic jam as well as free footpaths and establishments from illegal occupation as decided at the coordination meeting.
Besides, Dhaka Wasa will initiate steps to reclaim grabbed canals and necessary renovation works to reduce waterlogging in the city, he said citing meeting’s decisions.
Annisul also said government agencies concerned agreed to provide land for setting up secondary transfer stations to store garbage, while Rajuk agreed to help the DNCC find land for landfill and hand over its three parks to the corporation. The meeting also decided that authorities concerned will inform the DNCC six months before digging any road and the corporation will inform the local traffic department one month before the work starts in order to maintain coordination, he said.
Replying to a query, the DNCC chief said the corporation is considering producing electricity through recycling waste. “Bu it’s not possible for the DNCC alone to implement it unless there’s awareness among the city dwellers.”
He also said work plans for construction and rebuilding roads and drains have already been finalised for the next two and a half years and the implementation is on accordingly.
