SUST to open software engineering dept
SYLHET: The authorities of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) are going to introduce a new department called ‘Software Engineering’ from the academic session 2016-17.
The decision came from the 200th meeting of the university Syndicate on Monday, said Vice-Chancellor Professor Aminul Haque Bhuiyan.
SUST public relations office sources said the number of seats of the department will be 30 and the department will be under control of Institute of Information and Communication Technology.

CU admission process begins from Sept 1
CHITTAGONG: The admission process of Chittagong University (CU) for the first-year honours courses under 2016-17 academic session will begin from September 1 and continue till September 25.
CU Registrar (acting) Prof Dr Kamrul Huda said the admission tests will be held from October 23 to October 30. 
Admission seekers will have to register for the tests by sending a message (SMS) through numbers of telecom operator Teletalk.
Details of the admission tests, registration procedures are available on the university website: www.cu.ac.bd.

Russian envoy calls on DU VC
Russian Ambassador to Bangladesh Alexander Ignatov called on Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Professor AAMS Arefin Siddique on Tuesday at his office of the university.
He was accompanied by attaché of the embassy Anastasia Nemova.
During the meeting they discussed matters of mutual interest.
Russian Ambassador informed the vice-chancellor that Russia would give 500 rare books on various subjects including literature, culture, history and science to the university soon.
They also discussed ongoing joint collaborative academic and research programmes between Dhaka University (DU) and various universities in Russia.
Such collaboration especially with Nuclear Engineering Department of DU would be enhanced, Russian ambassador said.
Prof Arefin thanked the guests for their visit to the university and showing keen interest in its academic and research activities.

RU to expedite e-resource services in central library
RAJSHAHI: Rajshahi University (RU) will expedite the existing services of electronic and online resources in its central library for the betterment of users as well as other researchers concerned.
"We are committed to enhance the uses and number of users as well of e-books and e-journals of the library," said Prof Md Mijanuddin, Vice-chancellor of RU, here yesterday. 
He was addressing the inaugural session of a six-day long workshop titled "Electronic and Online Resources: Access and Utilisation" at the central library's conference hall as chief guest.
With Administrator of Central Library Prof Safiqunnabi Samadi in the chair, Prof Abdullah Sams Bin Tarique of Department of Physics, Director of ICT Center Prof Khademul Islam Mollah and Deputy Librarians Dr Sadeque Reja Chowdhury and Dr Golam Mostofa also spoke.
Prof Mijanuddin urged the teachers, students and researchers to become world-class graduates by properly utilising the e-Library facilities. He also called upon them to avoid misusing the facilities.
Some 120 teachers and researchers from different departments and institutes in the university are taking part in the workshop.

Workshop on self-assessment report writing held 
SAVAR: The Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of Jahanirnagar University (JU) organised a workshop on self-assessment report writing at university senate hall yesterday.
Conducted by the director of IQAC of JU Ajit Kumar Majumder, vice chancellor Farzana Islam inaugurated the programme as chief guest.
Vice Chancellor said, “IQAC is playing an important role to increase personal skills and develop the quality of education. We may get positive result in administrative functions if officials may add under IQAC projects besides teachers”.
Pro-Vice Chancellor Abul Hossain was special guest while expert in related topics of University Grand Commission (UGC) and Professor of Bangladesh Agriculture University M Abul Kashem and ex-vice chancellor of Noakhali University of Science and Technology (NUST) Shanjai Kumar Adhikari presented the keynotes in the programme.
