‘Damer Madar’ to be staged again today

Theatre troupe Natyam Repertory will stage yet another show of its first production ‘Damer Madar’ today at 7pm at the Experimental Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA), in the capital’s Segun Bagicha area. The play is based on an ancient Bangla folk narrative. Folk narratives are most enriched tradition of Bengal for thousands of years. Those narratives are mainly flourishing through oral text. The narrative of ‘Madar Pir’ is one of those narratives, which is originated from Muslim myth and has been recited different parts of this land for years among the devotees of ‘Madar Pir’. Sadhana Ahmed is the playwright while Irin Pervin Lopa is the director and Junaid Eusuf is the artistic director.
Irin Pervin Lopa said, “The story of our play has been cantered by a sect of madar pir. The playwright has written this play based on a half true story and describe as narrative. To present this traditional narrative I use modern approach of theatre both in designing and way of acting. Through her play, the playwright has tried to search the secluded truth of life beyond established religion. I as a director also have tried to search that mystery. ‘As I am not seeing Him that’s why I always accomplish Him!’ the eternal desire between embodied soul and supreme soul, that’s the sprite to get through our theatre.” Sadhana Ahmed said, “From ancient time till today religious as an establishment has been used as power politics. Abasement of religion, political use of religion, use religion for own interest is going on in the human society endlessly. As same old story is going on so the context and relevance also never end. Political use of religion is an obstacle, obstacle against humanity, against progress. It is like and endless darkness caste shadow over beauty, over truth. But as always any kind of ugliness, untruth cannot gain success at the end. By throwing away all darkness, beauty and truth always come out. Though my play I have tried to tell that same old tale.”
The cast of the play includes Tazmi Noor, Shishir Rahaman, Parvin Akhter, Shamima Akter, Fazle Rabbee Sukarnoo, Jannatul Ferdous and Tarak Nath Das, among others. Parimal Majumdar, Kalipad Roy and Bimol Das, among others,  in the music team.
