The identities of five militants and one of their suspected associates, who were killed in a commando operation at the Holey Artisan Bakery in the capital’s Gulshan after a 12-hour siege on July 2, have been confirmed through DNA tests, UNB reports. The militants are Meer Samih Mobassher, Rohan Ibn Imtiaz, Nirbras Islam, Khairul Islam Payel and Shafiqul Islam Uzzal while their suspected associate is Saiful Islam Choukidar, chef of the café. Masudur Rahman, deputy commissioner (Media) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), yesterday said the DNA samples of the five militants and the chef have been matched with the samples of their respective family members. The Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit of DMP, which is the investigation agency of the case, received the DNA test reports from the forensic lab of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) yesterday. Replying to a question, he said if the family members want to receive the bodies of the deceased, they will have to apply for it. The Investigation Officer (IO) of the case will decide whether the bodies will be handed over to their family members or not. If the IO thinks that he does not need the bodies for the sake of ongoing investigation of the case, he may hand over those, the DC (Media) added.
