Six missing as boat sinks
Natore: Six people went missing as an engine-run boat capsized in the Padma River in Lalpur upazila yesterday morning, reports UNB.
The victims are Chander Ali,55, Arzed Ali,43, Belal Hossain,45, Jamrul Islam,25, Bhasan Ali,28, and Jamal, 52, all residents of Bilmaria of the upazila.
Additional superintendent of police Anwar Khan said the boat carrying about 50 farmers sank in the river while it was going to Polashir Char from Bilmaria Ghat in the upazila in the morning. The six went missing after the incident while others managed to swim ashore.
Two held with 180kg hemp
Brahmanbaria: Police arrested two people along with 180 kilograms of hemp from Jolla area on the Radhika-Nabinagar road in Nabinagar upazila on Monday night, reports UNB.
The arrestees were identified as Rubel and Jewel, both residents of Rudrakkhobari village in Nabinagar upazila.
OC of Nabinagar Police Station Imtiaz Ahmed said tipped off, a team of police conducted a drive in the area and intercepted a pickup van while it was going to Baroicha of Narsinghdi from Katherpul area in Kosba upazila of Brahmanbaria at night. The law enforcers recovered 180 kilograms of hemp from the vehicle and arrested its driver Rubel and helper Jewel. A case was filed in this connection.
Spurious liquor kills man
Chapainawabganj: A young man died after taking adulterated liquor at Alampur village in Bholahat upazila on Monday, reports UNB.
The deceased was identified as Subal Mondal, 40, a resident of the village. Officer-in-Charge of Gomastapur Police Station Sheikh Shahin Kamal said Subal fell sick at about 2:30pm after drinking the adulterated liquor that got toxic. He was taken to Gomastapur Upazila Health Complex where he succumbed to his injures at 3:30pm. A case was filed in this connection.
Five shops fined in Habiganj
HABIGANJ: A mobile court fined three restaurants, one food item shop and a computer shop in Shaestaganj Bazaar of the district yesterday afternoon, reports BSS.
The mobile team led by executive magistrates AKM Saiful Alam and Hasan Maruf conducted drives in different areas of the bazaar and fined the business establishments for running their business without license and manufacturing, possessing and selling foods in an unhygienic condition.
The operation team fined the business establishments a total of Tk 28,000 and realised the fined money on the spot.
Two girls killed in road crash

Two girls were killed in a road accident on Monday night at Naldir Char village in Sadar upazila.
The deceased were identified as Chaity Biswas, 14, a student of class nine of Gobra Parbati Vidyapith and daughter of Pintu Biswas of Agdiarchar village and Trisha, 3, daughter of Sadhan Biswas of Barendar village in Sadar upazila.
Police said the accident occurred at about 10 pm when a truck hit a battery run rickshaw van, leaving the duo dead on the spot. Injured van driver and two other passengers are undergoing treatment at Narail Sadar Hospital. After the accident agitated local people set fire to the truck.
OC of Sadar police Subas Biswas said fire fighters doused the fire of the truck.
2 Indian back thru’ Benapole after 1 year detention

Two Indian teenagers went back home through Benapole on Monday after being held in custody of Juvenile Correction Centre in Jessore for one year.
Bangladesh police handed them over to Indian Petrapole police through Benapole check post at night.
The returnees were identified as Apurba, 13, and Aminul Islam, 14, both residents of North 24 Parganas district in West Bengal of India. OC of Benapole check post immigration police Iqbal Hossain said the boys entered the country illegally one year back. Later, police arrested them from Sonadanga upazila in Khulna district.
Afterwards, they were produced before a court that ordered keeping them in custody for one year in Juvenile Correction Centre in Jessore.
