6 to die for raping Pran female employee

Narsingdi: A court in Narsingdi yesterday convicted six people and sentenced them to death for raping a female employee of Pran Group at Bhatpara village in Palash upazila in 2013, reports UNB.
The condemned convicts are Ashiqur Rahman, 35, son of late Kudrat Ali, Ilias, 21, son of Tajul Islam, Rumen, 20, son of Siraj Sheikh, Robin, 20, son of Hanifa, Ibrahim, 22, son of Montu Miah, and Abdur Rahman, 24, son of Salam Miah. All the convicts are the residents of Bhatpara village.
The tribunal also fined them Tk one lakh each.
Apart from this, Judge of Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal Shamim Ahmed gave seven years of rigorous imprisonment to two convicts and fined them Tk1 lakh each.
According to the case statement, the victim was returning home from her workplace around 9pm on May 17, 2013. As she reached Bhatpara village, the six convicts intercepted her, forcibly took her to a desolate spot and raped her by turns. The convicts also took footage of the rape in a mobile phone.
Later on May 18, a Pran Group employee filed two cases -- one under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act and the other under the Pornography Control Act -- against them with Palash Police Station in connection with the incident.
After examining records and 12 witnesses Judge Shamim Ahmed handed down the verdict.
