Health and Family Welfare Minister Mohammad Nasim yesterday said the government would recruit around 10,000 nurses next month across the country, a release said, BSS reports.
"Through appointing new nurses, people of the country would receive better services," he told Canadian High Commissioner in Dhaka BenoOt-Pierre Laram,e.
The envoy paid a courtesy call on Nasim at his ministry office and praised the government for carrying out relentless activities in the health sector, the release added.
The government has been running Malaria, Tuberculosis and AIDS-related programmes across the country aimed at providing health services to common people, BenoOt-Pierre Laram,e said.
Expressing satisfaction over the progress of the country's health sector, the Canadian envoy said his country sincerely gives priority to develop the health sector of Bangladesh.
Mentioning Canada a trusted development partner of Bangladesh, the minister said Canada's contribution has been playing an important role to improve health sector.
He urged the high commissioner to increase support in the future. Highlighting the government's activities, Nasim said the government has undertaken various initiatives to increase efficiency of the country's nurses. He, however, said capacity building programmes would increase make nurses skilled.
Later, BenoOt-Pierre Laram,e invited the minister for participating in the international conference of the Global Fund to be held in Montreal, Canada on September 16 to 17.
The minister also accepted the invitation and expressed his interest to attend the conference.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is expected to participate in the international conference of the Global Fund.
Health Secretary Syed Manzurula Islam and officials of the Canadian High Commission were present in the call on, it added.
