Stock markets plunged further yesterday mainly due to the sell pressures for large-cap securities. The sell pressure, however, drove the daily transaction significantly high, reports BSS.
Among the large-cap group, shares of MJLBD, SPCL and some other securities from cement, food and allied, textile and NBFI sectors were traded actively. The market was also in favour of buyers, with majority of issues traded closing lower.
The broader index DSEX of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) finished the day 14.16 points down at 4563.68.
The Shariah DSES and blue-chip DS30 followed it by 5.10 points lower at 1111.87 and 5.98 points down at 1756.92 respectively.
Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also closed the day down, with its major CASPI index closing over 53.90 points down at 13,998.44.
The daily trade value at the country’s premier bourse was up by nearly 32.0 per cent to Tk 589.40 crore while the volume rose by around 10.33 per cent to 12.93 crore shares.
Among the traded 319 issues at DSE, 148 closed lower against 113 gaining issues. At CSE, 124 issues lost when 90 finished the day higher.
The major gaining sectors were NBFI and textile when the major lagging sectors were cement and food and allied.
The top five gaining companies were Northern Jute, Ambee Pharmaceutical, Rahim Tex, Mithun Knitting and Style Craft.
The major losers included South East First Mutual Fund, National Life Insurance First Mutual Fund, Rahima Food, Sonargaon Textile and BD welding.
MJLBD topped the turnover list followed Brac Bank, SPCL, Mithun Knitting, BSRM Limited and Style Craft.
