4 factories fined for pollution
The Department of Environment on Monday fined Taka 19.90 lakh to four dying, edible, rice bran factories and a brick kiln for creating environmental pollution through releasing liquid waste directly to open environment in Bogra, Chittagong, Bagerhat and Dhaka , said a release.
As part of anti-pollution drive, director of the Department Environment (monitoring and enforcement) Dr Muhammad Anower Hossain Hawlader imposed the fine against these factories following investigation report that those factories were operating without any Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP).

Two held with yaba in Ctg
Officials of the Narcotics Control Department (NCD) arrested two youths with 2,500 pieces of contraband yaba tablets from city’s Bakalia area on Monday morning.
The arrested were identified as Jasim, 25 and Syed Alam, 20. A team of NCD on secret information, arrested them with the yaba tablets from Bakalia Thana area, said Aslam Hossain Chowdhury, deputy director of NCD, Chittagong Metro Zone. A case was filed with the city’s Bakalia thana in this connection.

Mobile courts against substandard cylinders
The government has asked the Petrobangla (Bangladesh Oil, Gas & Mineral Corporation) to operate mobile courts against supplying of natural compressed gas for the illegal cylinders in the greater national interest and public safety.
The Energy and Mineral Resources Division of the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources has issued a circular to this effect that no natural gas shall be supplied for use in the illegal, unauthorised and substandard cylinders and also banning transportation of gas-filled cylinders in the covered vans.

2 arrested with arms, ammo
Detective Branch (DB) of police on Monday arrested two persons and seized a revolver and 12 rounds of ammunition from their possession from Kafrul area in the capital.
Two arrested are Md Jewel Mollah alias Uzzal, 25, and Sheikh Md Robin alias Al Amin, 26.
“A team of the DB (west) police led by Inspector Md Mominul Islam conducted the drive at Sarkar Bari in Paschim Teki area under Kafrul Police Station and arrested the duo with the arms and ammunition,” a DMP release said. A case has been lodged with the Kafrul Police Station in this regard.
