GAZIPUR: A court here yesterday sentenced two people to death and two others to life term imprisonment for killing a garment worker in 2014, reports UNB.
The condemned convicts are Mohammad Kalam, 30, and Iqbal Hossain, 22, while the lifers are Mokhles, 19, and Latif, 25, of Bormi area in Sreepur upazila. Among them, Iqbal was tried in absentia. The court also fined the convicts Tk 10,000 each.
According to the prosecution, Rupali Khatun, a garment worker and resident of Chandana Intersection in Gazipur city and daughter of Makbul Hossain of Charghat upazila in Rajshahi district, had an affair with convict Kalam. On August 15, 2014, Kalam took Rupali to a forest at Gilashwar village where he along with other convicts violated the girl by turns and strangled her to death.
Later, a case was filed with Sreepur Police Station. MA Mazid, sub-inspector of Sreepur Police Station, then submitted a chargesheet against the four.
