10 shops gutted in Gaibandha
Gaibandha: At least 10 shops were gutted as a fire broke out at Railgate Market in the district town yesterday morning, reports UNB.
Azizur Rahman, station officer of Gaibandha Fire Station, said the fire broke out at the market around 7.30am. On information, three fire fighting units from Palashbari and Gobindaganj of the district and Pirganj in Rangpur district rushed to the spot and doused the flame around 9.30am.
The fire might have been originated from a burning mosquito coil, added the official.
The shops owners claimed that total estimated loss of the fire was around Tk 3 crore.
Two Jamaat men among 28 held
Jhenidah: Police arrested 28 people, including 2 activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and its student front Islami Chhatra Shibir, in a special drive from different parts of the district yesterday, reports UNB.
Azbahar Ali shekh, additional superintendent of Jhenidah police, said police conducted a drive in different places of the district from Sunday night to Monday morning and arrested them on sabotage charges. Among the arrestees, there were two Jamaat-Shibir activists, added the ASP.
Two minor cousins drown
Pabna: Two minor cousins drowned in a pond in Chatmohar upazila on Sunday, reports UNB.
The deceased were identified as Bina Khatun, 6, daughter of Abul Kalam, of the upzila, and her cousin Hafsa Khatun, 6, daughter of Mahir Uddin of Rajshahi. Local people said Hafsa came to the house of her grandfather at Katakhali from Rajshahi a few days ago. Hafsa and with Bina slipped into the pond near the house while playing in the afternoon.
Later, family members recovered their bodies from the pond.
3,340 tonnes of VGF rice allocated
JAMALPUR: District administration allocated 3,340 tones of rice for distribution among the VGF card holders to mark the Eid-ul-Azha in the district.
District relief and rehabilitation official said each of the VGF card holder will get 10-kg rice.
Officials said under the programme 36,311 families in Jamalpur sadar, 53,249 families in Dewanganj, 58,702 families in Islampur, 47,337 families in Madarganj, 56,221 families in Melandaha, 20,284 families in Sarishabari and 40,340 families in Bakshiganj upazilas will get the rice.
Besides, the rice also allocated in seven municipalities for distribution among the 21,566 VGF card holders, they added.
Eight ‘robbers’ arrested
NAOGAON: Police arrested eight alleged robbers from Bagarbari crossing area on Adamdigi-Abadpukur road on Sunday night while they were preparing to commit robbery in the area, reports BSS.
Police recovered sharp weapons from their possession.
Police Superintendent Mozammel Haque said receiving prior information police stopped the truck in Bagarbari area at about 2.30 am and arrested the gang members.
A case was filed with Raninagar Police Station in this connection. Arrested people were sent to jail, said the SP.
