Bangladesh pace sensation Mustafizur Rahman returned home from England 11 days after his successful surgical treatment yesterday.
Following a stopover in Sylhet, Rahman’s flight landed at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the capital at around 11:35am.
“Alhamdulillah, I am quite well by the grace of Allah and all of your blessings,” Mustafizur Rahman told reporters at the airport after an 11-hour-long air journey.
The left-handed pacer thereafter went to BCB office from airport to meet its chief physician Dr. Devashish Chowdhury, where Dr Chowdhury reminded Mustafiz what he will do in the next few days before the onset of the main rehabilitation programme.
When asked him about his rehab, Mustafiz said, “Just one day after the operation, Dr Wallace suggested a bit work for me what I have been doing last one week. Actually Wallace explained the full process to Dr Debasish how I have to work in rehabilitation period.”
“Actually my rehabilitation work will be increasing after four weeks,” Rahman added.
With high hopes Mustafizur Rahman went to London to play County Cricket for Sussex Sharks on July 17. On his county debut, he impressed his club and all his supporters with stunning bowling performance like his IPL stint. But he didn’t carry it further as his county campaign finished with the second match while he was sustained injury on his left shoulder.
About his current condition, he said that he is now quite better after his successful operation done by renowned shoulder surgeon Dr Andrew Wallace at the Bupa Cromwell Hospital on August 11.
“Now I feel well. But it will be better further when I will start my rehab at full swing,” he thinks.
The 22-year-old blamed on his luck that he had gone to London twice but unfortunately he missed to play both occasions due to injury.
“I went to London twice. First time I went to London to play with Bangladesh Under-19 Cricket team. That time I was fallen in injury. This time I also fell in injury while playing in the county cricket,” Satkhira-born lad said expressing his regret.
The type-2 SLAP (superior labrum anterior and posterior) tear of his left shoulder has been repaired. But it will be required long time to get him completely fit because its post-surgery rehabilitation process is very complicated than its operation.
According to BCB chief physician Dr. Devashish Chowdhury, it will take at least five-six months to get Mustafizur back on the ground.
“He has been given some simple practices for the next one month what he will do himself. Thereafter, we will start his real practice after the end of the primary practice,” Chowdhury said in this regard.
Really if it takes five or more months for his fully recuperation he will surely miss the next home series what he did not miss after his international debut in 2015.
“If I do not play the series (against England) it will since be a matter of worse feeling. For this I of course feel bad,” Mustafiz, known as Fizz to international media, signed off.
