Firefighters were carrying out dumping work at Bashundhara City Shopping Mall in the capital’s Panthapath area yesterday following Sunday’s fire in the complex, reports UNB .
Operation officer of Fire Service and Civil Defence Zia Uddin said dumping work is going on inside Bashundhara City Shopping Mall as they brought the fire under control on Sunday night.
Witnesses said firefighters and the workers of Bashundhara City Development Limited were working to clean the shopping mall in the morning.
No one, not even traders and media people, was allowed to enter the shopping complex on Monday. Shop owners, workers and employees were seen gathering in front of the mall in the morning.
Bashundhara City Shopping Mall chief security officer M Latif Hasan on Sunday told UNB that the market is unlikely to reopen before Wednesday.
The fire that broke out on level-6 at Bashundhara City Shopping Mall around 11:30 am on Sunday was brought under control around 8:50pm, nearly nine hours after it broke out. A total of 70 shops, out of 100 on level 6, were completely or partially damaged in the fire.
