RAJSHAHI: Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) has selected 227 places for slaughtering sacrificial animals in the forthcoming Eid-Ul Azha in 30 Wards of the city, reports BSS.
The decision was taken special general meeting of the corporation held in the city bhaban conference hall yesterday afternoon.
The meeting urged the city dwellers to use only the selected places for the purposes in the greater interest of making the metropolis along with its air and water free from pollution and other contamination.
With Acting Mayor Nizam-Ul Azim in the chair, Chief Executive Officer Syeda Zebinnissa Sultana, Chief Revenue Officer Mahbubur Rahman, Chief Engineer Ashraful Haque, Chief Health Officer Dr Anzuman Ara Begum and other ward councilors and officials concerned spoke on the occasion.
Mayor Azim said the citizens should come forward, work together and, as a whole, take the responsibility of building the city habitable. Time has come to prevent the existing trend of slaughtering sacrificial animals here and there.
Planned and hygienic slaughtering of animals has become indispensable to protect the public health from becoming infected with various diseases including the zoonotic ones.
Mayor Nizam-Ul Azim says collective effort of all government and non-government organisations concerned has become a crucial issue to control the community level zoonotic disease particularly anthrax as its risks are increasing in the country.
