Tahmid lands in jail

A Dhaka court yesterday sent Toronto University student Tahmid Hasib Khan to jail on completion of his remand period in connection with Gulshan terror attack, reports UNB.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Delwar Hossain passed the order after Inspector Humayan Kabir of the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) produced Tahmid before the court after his six-day remand.
Earlier, the police officer filed a petition with the court seeking permission for sending Tahmid to jail mentioning that police have found huge information from him during the interrogation and if the court gives bail to him, the investigation might be hampered.
The court also rejected the bail petition filed by Tahmids lawyer.
On August 13, a court put Tahmid on a 6-day remand in connection with Gulshan terror attack after Tahmid was produced before the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Golam Nabi after his eight-day remand earlier.
A team of the CTTC arrested ex-NSU teacher Abul Hasnat Rezaul Karim, who is now on an eight-day fresh remand, and Tahmid on August 3 from the citys Gulshan and Bashundhara areas respectively for their suspected link to the attack.
They were shown arrested under Section 54 of the CrPC. Abul Hasnat, a businessman, and Tahmid Hasib, a Bangladeshi origin Canadian, were rescued along with 11 others during the commando operation at the Holey Artisan Bakery at the citys diplomatic zone Gulshan on July 2 following a 12-hour hostage standoff.
Their family members claimed that they had remained traceless since then. However, law enforcement agencies said that they set them free after interrogation over the caf attack.
